How to Find the New Career Best for You
Finding the new career best for you is easier than you think. But it it requires using a different method to discover and capture your best fitting career. There are three types of work selection methods that can be used to find and pick your career. Most people do not realize they are using one of the two most historically used methods. And that they rarely work. And the third relatively new method that was designed to virtually work every time, when done right.
- The “Trial and Error method.” The most used method. Here you look at career “options“ that arrive on your plate from any source. You research and evaluate these options. You select one, using whatever method you want. You give it a “Try.” You then ADJUST to the position, to the organization, to the customers, to the industry, to your bosses, to the circumstances, and to the cultures. And you eventually realize you are not doing much if anything you want to do or expected to be doing. You get frustrated, confused and unhappy.
So you decide to find another career. You then embark on another “Trial and Error” process, giving your next position a “Try.” And you “Adjust” again to the many different demands and expectations. To the point that you once again feel the same unhappiness and frustrations as before. Only the scenery has changed. You lose confidence and start questioning yourself after failing at 2 or 3 or more “Trial and Error” attempts. Thinking, what is wrong with me? There is nothing wrong with you. You just used a method that rarely works. “Welcome to the human race. “ - The “Please Others Method. You fall into a career to please others. Your career is chosen by your parents, your spouses, your culture, and/or your peers. You are now working in a position that suits the expectations and desires of others, not you. You are required to make considerable adjustments to meet the whims of others in this imposed career. As you can imaging this can become a personal struggle to fulfill the obligations foisted on you. Creating more conflicts than you will want. Escaping from this regimen can be difficult. But will be exhilarating if accomplished.
- “Engaging a Career Coach Method.” The reason you hire a career coach is to discover and then obtain your personally crafted Ideal Income Position. The reason your career coach coaches you is to make darn sure you DO get your Ideal Income Position. Your Ideal Income Position is the position that allows you to discover and fulfill your passions and priorities, follow your beliefs and values, maximize your talents and avoid as many of your self-imposed obstacles as you can. You will KNOW that this new career is the best fit for you. A career coach will help you get the right job, and/or become a successful business owner.
Characteristics of the best matching new career.
Everyone has different careers that will provide enjoyment, fulfillment and generate valuable rewards. You want the career where you do what you love, love what you do, and are so talented at generating valuable results you will attract remarkable rewards, both financially and otherwise. You want to be very gifted in performing your passionate new career. So, you are very confident and comfortable in your new position.
Three ways of earning a living
There are three basic methods to earn a living, frequently referred to as “games of work” and like sports games they have different rules to follow for success. And these rules are contradictory in some places. Many people confuse these games and fall into trying to perform multiple games at the same time, only to struggle in the process. We have found that each game can be very rewarding and productive when performed independently by adhering only to the rules of the game they choose to play.
The job is comparable to playing American football. You perform specific functions as a team member in an organization to generate valuable results that benefits the goals of the organization. Yet the rules to rise in the organization become more political in nature as you reach higher levels within the organization. Where you will eventually need to butter up to your bosses to make them look good, sometimes at the expense of the organization. And eventually you will want you own subordinates to help you look good as well. And you frequently benefit from shirking responsibility when possible. But you have no job security, because others have the powers to separate you, or your organization gets taken over by another organization and you become expendable, or the organization itself fails around you. Partnerships are an offshoot of this game that create additional confusion with multiple bosses.
The independent contractor is comparable to being a golf player on tour. You are paid for what you personally do, and the results of your efforts. You are your own boss. And you surround yourself with people and resources whose job is to make sure perform more effectively and more often. You are the center of attention. You have more control over your successes by virtue of how well you perform. Doctors, dentists, real estate agents, touring golfers and consultants are good examples.
Business owner is comparable to running a baseball team where you decide whether you want to play a position or not. The six rules to succeed as a business owner are that you must be in total control. The business must have a purpose or mission where the business generates value by virtue of the products and services the business provides, and you the owner will want to be passionate about this mission. You surround yourself with people and resources who focus on always fulfilling the purpose of the business. The mission of the business becomes the center of their attention, not you the owner. The business must generate a profit for you to get paid. And you the owner must take care of yourself first to create your role in the business that allows you to cherry pick the functions you want and perform well, so the business works for you, to give you the time and energy to enjoy your life on your terms. You delegate the functions you deem necessary that you choose not to do. The saying that “as the owner goes, so goes the business” is very often true.
Your best matched new career is waiting for you.
Now that you know the characteristics of your best career, the different types of careers to pick from, and the 3 different methods to attain your chosen career, you can make the choices you feel would be right for you to transition into your best next career. Once you feel you are operating in the best career for you and you Know it, Congratulations! You are one of the lucky ones.
