Here’s an example of how it feels when you discover what you love: Katie is a joyful little dog who lives next door. When her owner opens the door, so she can go out in the yard, she springs into action – suddenly she’s a racehorse – running like the wind, deliriously happy and focused on her sudden freedom…chasing squirrels and bouncing in the snow!
I know what she’s thinking – “I can do what I want and nobody can stop me!” Truly, I’m not sure if I’ve ever witnessed such sublime happiness…it’s an awesome sight!
Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could feel like that about our job? I mean you’re at work sometimes more than you’re at home, you communicate all day long with people you didn’t even know before you got hired and you are getting paid to do something – do you love it?
So, I ask you again – how do you discover what you love to do? Do you hit the snooze button 32 times before rising? Do call in sick when you’re not? Have you ever driven to work in the morning, thinking “Weekend, hurry up!” Do you hate Monday’s?
Are you underpaid, underappreciated AND overworked all at the same time? These are only some of the signs that you may not be in the right career for you….and…that you may not be joyfully jumping through piles of leaves, which also leads me to believe that you may not love what you do.
But you’re thinking, “I can’t afford to walk away from my job, I’ve got bills, a mortgage, a college loan, and a family!” Right? Plus to discover what you love sounds almost impossible anyway! So why bother trying?
But there is one thing that you can do now. This one thing will help you really discover what you love to do to actually get to your career goals faster than any other improvement process and you can do this while you are still working in your current position – so no-one has to know that you are on the road to achieving your dream job, but you.

Sometimes people ask me “what’s the cost to hire a career coach”
The question I’d like to ask is “what’s the cost to NOT hire a coach?
Let’s say you are in a job you hate, you: Feel stressed driving to work and then feel stressed, all day, then you drive home a bundle of nerves. You feel unfulfilled at your job, unappreciated and your paycheck’s a joke.
You often wonder what would be your best career match – because the job you have now, simply pays the bills and nothing more. You can’t wait for the freedom of the weekend and you feel sick to your stomach when Monday rolls around! How long can you afford to work like this? I hope you have great health care coverage!
But you may ask? “Hire someone? No way, I can just find a better job on my own.” Ok sure, go ahead.
I wonder though, how many jobs have you had in your adult working life that you’ve been absolutely been over the moon about? If your answer is “none”, then the odds that you will land your perfect & ideal work situation this time is…well…pretty slim.
A career coach does several things that you cannot do for yourself, which are worth your time, effort and even your money. Your career coach will be your partner and act like your mirror. Why is this important?
Because in order for your career coach to assist you in getting to your goals, he or she will ask you questions to get you to open up & reveal things about yourself that you’ve not shared before and/or you may not even know about yourself right now.
Your career coach not only listens to what you do say, but also to what you don’t say – again, very important. Then your career coach reflects back to you your priorities, talents, passions, values and obstacles in a clear & objective manner. He or she will also hold you accountable and keep you on track to achieving your goal of making the best career change for you.
A friend or family member cannot be your coach. Why? Think about it, friends and family members – although they mean well, don’t ask you who you are…they usually tell you who they think you are. How is that going to help you grow and improve as a person?
Besides, a professional career coach comes to the partnership with you, armed with a virtual toolbox of experience and techniques, all geared to unlock the real you so that you can become “The World’s Leading Expert on You!”
Hiring a career coach is quickest way for you to feel like “I can do what I want and nobody can stop me!” Just like little Katy does, every day…“I can do what I want and nobody can stop me!” When you discover what you love to do, you will feel that way as a kid. Don’t you want that feeling back? But, I must warn you – once you see how your career coach can help you achieve your career goals, you will want to hire a coach for all your coachable goals!
